Most Common Hair Care Mistakes

We all want shiny, gorgeous hairs. But we make some mistakes which spoils our hair. Today in this post we will see Most Common Hair Care Mistakes

How you wash, dry, and style can seriously affect the health and appearance of your locks. Are you making these hair care mistakes?

Not Brushing Before Washing

Hair is weakest when it’s wet, and wet hair is more prone to tangling. To prevent shower-induced snarls, give your hair a brush before washing hairs. If you like to comb in the shower, apply conditioner, untangle strands with your fingers, and then use a wide-toothed comb before rinsing.

Not shampooing correctly

First step is picking a shampoo that is correct for the pH balance of your hair and scalp. If you colour your hair, use colour-safe or sulfate-free shampoos that are gentle and protect colour from fading. If your hair needs hydration, look for nourishing shampoos.

Brushing the Ends Only

Massage scalp with a wooden-bristle brush like to stimulate circulation and hair growth and brush from roots to ends to add luster naturally.

Haphazard Conditioning

We’ve heard to condition only the ends to prevent flat, weighed-down tresses, but fine-haired gals should condition their roots as well since their hair is more susceptible to breakage. Over conditioning is another common mistake.  No matter how you condition, be sure to rinse until the water runs clear and use a clarifying shampoo from time to time to prevent residue build-up.

Intense Towel Drying

Most styling products direct you to use them on towel-dried hair, but rubbing hair too much will roughen up the cuticle, leading to dull hair, frizz, and breakage. Blot hair with a towel and shake out the strands with your fingers. Your hair will take longer to dry, but it will be healthier in the long run.

Brushing Too Much

Over-brushing can make your hair weak and it can lead to split ends and breakage.

Brush only when you have to, and make sure you’re using the right brush for your hair.

Going to sleep with your hair wet

When you sleep and move your hair it can cause a lot of frizz at the back of the head. Dry your hair before you sleep. Some people get lazy at night and do this but it only ends up causing more work for you in the morning. The problem is when you go to bed with your hair wet the cuticle is not quite sealed and with all the friction from moving around at night, it can cause frizz.

Skipping Heat Protection

We all know that heat is one of the most damaging elements to hair. But if you don’t want to live without blow-drying, curling, or flattening, always, always use a heat-protective aid to shield strands and smooth cuticles.  Before blow-drying, let hair air dry until just damp (use your fingers to shake out hair to speed the process) and opt for the warm setting instead of hot to avoid habitual heat damage.

Using Hot Irons on Damp Hair

Wet hair and hot tools don’t mix. Curling and flat irons can burn the follicles of damp strands, leading to weak and broken tresses. Hair should be completely dry before heat styling, period. Even when you’re in a rush.

Thinking You Can Mend Split Ends

Once hair has split at the ends, there’s no product that can mend it. The only solution for split ends is to prevent them in the first place (e.g. avoiding over-washing, rigorous towel drying)—or to get a trim.

Washing your hair too often

It’s a common misconception that our hair, like our bodies, needs to be cleansed every day. The only thing you’re doing when you wash your hair every day is stripping it of the essential oils it needs to remain healthy. Unless you have very oily hair, you don’t need to wash your hair every day. Over-washing can dry your hair, making it brittle, so only wash when you have to.

If your unwashed hair is driving you crazy try a dry shampoo.

Skipping Conditioner

When you do wash your hair, it’s important to use conditioner, every time.

In fact, my stylist, who has curly hair that tends to frizz, uses a rinse-out and a leave-on conditioner, every time she shampoos.

Skipping conditioner can make your hair dull, dry, and prone to tangles.

Not being patient with your tangles

You probably should wait until your hair is 70-80% dry before you begin to brush through it. Any time before that could mean you’re brushing out the conditioning treatments and good oils and nutrients. Allow your hair to breathe for a little bit if you have the time.

Getting into a swimming pool without wetting your hair beforehand

If the hair is already wet, it won’t soak up as much of the chemicals that are in the pool water. Using a spray bottle filled with distilled water – distilled water will block the chemicals from making their way into the hair fiber – but regular tap water will do fine too. this is one of the Most Common Hair Care Mistakes.

Not being mindful of your eating habits

The foods you put into your body are reflected in your hair, skin, and nails. Food that carries B6 and B12 vitamins like rice, peppers, and strawberries help create red blood cells, which makes hair healthier and grow faster.

Addicted to the ponies

Girls love throwing their hair up in a ponytail after a long day. But this is a habit we all need to break. Hair ties are not our hair’s friend. They can cause serious breakage which causes frizz. If at all possible, cut way back on the hair tie usage and look into clips.

Skipping Trims

Even if you’re trying to grow out your hair, regular trims are important to keep your hair looking and feeling healthy.

In fact, if you are trying to grow your hair regular trims can help keep your hair in shape. Visit your stylist for a trim at least every 8 weeks.

Lifestyle

Smoking, drinking too much, and skimping on sleep can really take a toll on your body, including your hair.

If you do over-indulge, and your hair pays the price, splurge on a hot oil treatment or deep conditioner to mitigate the damage.

Applying conditioner on the scalp

The  Most Common Hair Care Mistakes we all make is applying conditioner on the scalp. Doing so can actually clog your follicles and slow your hair growth. Apply conditioner only on the ends of your hair to keep it hydrated and protected against potential damage.

Using wrong size brush

Using all sorts of brushes for your hair? It’s time you stopped. Synthetic, plastic and metal brushes increase breakage and weakens your hair. Try using boar bristle brushes which are considered the best for getting shinier, healthier, stronger and smoother hair.

Tying wet hair
