How to Make Makeup Last on Oily Skin

March 10, 2018

Hi all,

Women has different types of skin some have dry skin, some have oily skin and some has normal skin. Today we will be covering How to Make Makeup Last on Oily Skin.

Oily skin comes with a lot of benefits like less wrinkles, less fine lines and your skin stays naturally moisturised. But everything has a good and a bad side. Oily skin people will find difficult to choose the right makeup products and the biggest problem is not being able to keep the makeup on for long especially in the hot summer months.

TIPS TO MAKE YOUR MAKEUP LAST ALL DAY FOR OILY SKIN

No one wants to have to spend loads of time perfecting their makeup, only to have it slide from their face a few hours later, so here are my top tips on how to make makeup last all day, even if you have oily skin.

How to Make Makeup Last on Oily Skin

1.Cleanse your Face

The first thing is to cleanse the skin. You need to cleanse the pores and get rid of oil and dirt. This will help your makeup stay longer. Use a face wash which is specially meant for oily skin. You can also use Face wash which has Salicylic Acid. Salicylic acid will break down and remove the oil on your skin, but it won’t dry your skin out. It is one of the important step in How to Make Makeup Last on Oily Skin.

Use a gentle exfoliator twice a week to buff away dead skin and create a smooth surface which will make makeup go on more evenly and last longer.

2. Use Toner

Oily skin people find their makeup products caking up on the skin surface and clogging the pores leading to ugly breakouts. For this it’s important to tone the skin to partially close down the pores after cleansing. For this it’s important to tone the skin to partially close down the pores after cleansing.

3.Use Oil Free Moisturizer

Even oily skin needs moisturising and, if you don’t moisturise at all, your skin will go into overdrive and produce even more oil. Use light, oil-free, no-cream based moisturiser and, when you use it, make sure that you allow plenty of time for the moisturiser to sink into your skin, before you apply any makeup.

Once you’ve cleansed and blotted your face dry, follow up with an oil-free moisturizer containing an SPF with a minimum of 30(you can skip if you are putting makeup for night times)

It’s best to start with a good protective base before moving on to makeup. Wait for few minutes to allow moisturizer to absorb into skin before applying makeup. It is one of the important step in How to Make Makeup Last on Oily Skin.

4.Use a Matte Primer

A primer is good for any skin type, but for oily skin it is an essential. Apply a matte primer and it will give you a smooth canvas to apply the rest of your makeup. More importantly, it will also provide the perfect base that will keep your makeup in place for hours and hours. Use an oil-free, anti-shine primer. This is also one of the important TIPS TO MAKE YOUR MAKEUP LAST ALL DAY FOR OILY SKIN.

5.Avoid using concealer on your eyelids

Use a primer that is specifically designed for the eyelids and it will help to soak up grease during the day. A concealer is designed only to give you an even colour, so it won’t be anywhere near as effective at keeping your eye shadow in a place as a proper primer would be.

6. Use Right Concealer

For concealer always goes for stick concealer and blend with ring finger tip rather than with makeup brushes or sponges. Never go for oil based liquid concealer. You can even go for spot corrector concealer pens.

7.Use the Right Foundation

Selection of the right long lasting foundation for oily skin would mean selecting something without the oil or fragrance.. For long lasting makeup, choose an oil-free mineral based matte foundation that has no fragrance. It’s best to apply foundation with a brush, if you have oily skin. That will help to fill up the pores better and absorb more of the excess oil. This is the important TIPS TO MAKE YOUR MAKEUP LAST ALL DAY FOR OILY SKIN. 8.Eye shadow Application

People with oily skin should go for powder eye shadows rather than cream palettes. It’s best to use a brush for eye shadow application as it gently and fully covers the tiny pores on and around the eye lid. So shadow stays on pores and sticks better to skin.

9.Blush Application

If you want a rosy glow, then use a big blush brush and powder blush. Avoid stick or mousse blush: Stick blush will not blend in well or stay long on oily skin. Mousse blush can make your skin even oilier.

10. Apply Face Mask

Using face mask once a week will help keep oily skin under control and that will help your makeup stay where it should. There are many facemasks available in the market. But I prefer clay mask for oily skin.  It is one of the important step in How to Make Makeup Last on Oily Skin.

11. Carry Blotters and Powder

A common mistake that many women make is that they use powder on their face during the day without blotting first. When you need to tackle shiny skin, always blot first and then apply powder, or you will end up with a horrible cakey mess! Always carry blotters and powder with you.

12. Be careful about what you Eat

Avoid hot, spicy food, and watch the alcohol too. Try to limit your drinking and minimize your spicy food intake. Try including foods that contain Vitamin A, such as carrots and spinach. Vitamin A can help to slow down the production of oil in your skin.

13.Remove Makeup

Do not forget to remove makeup before going to bed. If you are careless in this department then your pores will remain clogged throughout the night. Oil glands do not sleep. They will keep producing oil and since pores are clogged, you may get pimples and acne.

These tips are helpful I have combination skin but at times my face you too greasy. It is like a sin to avoid moisturizers but I have been doing so because I did not come across any Indian brand which is meant for oily or combination skin types. Of late I have started using a face mask and that has helped also I avoid anything in the makeup which is creamy and I kind of thing that I can follow the steps that you’ve given here

I totally agree with these tips, I don’t have very oily skin, but my nose seems to be where my makeup fails to last – I’d definitely recommend using a good toner, primer and powder!

I think the best one can do is to use quality products that are designed for your skin type. Plus, packing on product on product is also not the best… as it may result in blocking your pores and making your skin even more oily. Great tips!
