14 Amazing Benefits of Rosehip Oil

June 22, 2018

Hi all,

Rosehip oil comes from the seeds of a specific variety of rose, Rosa aff. rubiginosa or Rosa moschata, which is the fruit left behind after a rose has flowered and dropped its petals. Rosehip oil is harvested from the seeds of rose bushes predominately grown in Chile, and is full of vitamins, antioxidants and essential fatty acids that are known to correct dark spots and hydrate dry, itchy skin, all while reducing scars and fine lines. Let’s see the 14 Amazing Benefits of Rosehip Oil.

By using a cold-press extraction process, the oil is separated from the hips and seeds.

For facial skin care, rosehip oil offers several benefits when applied externally. It protects the skin and increases cell turnover because it contains vitamin E, vitamin C, vitamin D and B-carotene, a form of vitamin A, and which are all antioxidants that help fight free radicals.

Rosehip oil’s healing properties are due to its chemical structure. As I noted, it’s rich in essential fatty acids, but more specifically oleic, palmitic, linoleic and gamma linolenic acid (GLA). Rosehip oil contains polyunsaturated fatty acids (vitamin F), also known as an essential fatty acid (EFA), and when absorbed through the skin, these fatty acids convert to prostaglandins (PGE), which are involved in cellular membrane and tissue regeneration.

14 Amazing Benefits of Rosehip Oil

Anti-Ageing Properties

Rosehip oil has significant anti-aging benefits for your face. Super light and non-greasy, the anti-aging benefit comes from its high antioxidants and the oil’s ability to penetrate into deeper layers of the skin.

For those who are seeking to avoid chemicals and Botox, rosehip oil may be perfect because of its skin rejuvenating properties of vitamin C and lycopene. This makes it a safer solution to repair the skin’s surface and restore elasticity.

Rosehip oil is a natural source of vitamin A known as trans-retinoic acid. Research shows that topical trans-retinoic acid is effective in helping to prevent premature ageing caused by sun exposure.

When skin is exposed to the sun, it can increase levels of enzymes that lead to the breakdown of collagen and elastin.

The trans-retinoic acid in rose hip oil reduces the activity of these skin-damaging enzymes, reducing damage caused by the sun. Rosehip oil is rich in a range of antioxidants, including beta-carotene and lycopene, which help to protect and repair skin from premature ageing caused by modern living.

It also helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles. The oil can penetrate due to the vitamin A, which has small enough molecules to go deeper into the skin. Vitamin A improves the skin’s moisture levels and reduces wrinkles and fine lines.

Essential fatty acids play a key role in the maintenance and regeneration of the collagen and elastin fibres that keep skin firm and youthful. The essential fatty acids and vitamins in rosehip oil are readily absorbed by the skin and help to slow the breakdown of these fibres.

With its neutral pH balance and anti- inflammatory properties, rosehip oil keeps skin balanced and healthy, helping to protect against cell degeneration caused by bacteria and oxidants.

Scars Treatment/ Stretch Marks

The essential fatty acids and vitamins in rosehip oil help to keep damaged skin hydrated so that a wound can heal quickly without drying out too quickly and tearing the skin surrounding the area.

These fatty acids are known as emollients, which improve the permeability and flexibility of the skin. The Vitamin A present in the oil could contribute to scar healing and skin regeneration as Vitamin A has been known to play a role in enhancing the skin’s tone and its texture.

The oil also has anti-inflammatory properties that help to prevent infection.

Use pure Rosehip oil on stretch marks, age spots, hyper-pigmentation, burns and scars; its astringent and skin nourishing properties will help to speed up the healing  process, as well as hydrate and moisturize the area.

Ultra Violet Protection & Repair

Another amazing benefit of rosehip oil is that it could combat the damage caused by the sun’s UV rays on the skin. The oil contains antioxidants which fight the free radicals responsible for photo ageing.

The essential fatty acids, in combination with Vitamin A help, enhance the skin texture, tone as well as pigmentation. The fact that the oil plays a huge role in moisturising the skin and mitigating irritation makes it an ideal treatment for facial rosacea.

Natural Healthy Glowing Skin

Rosehip oil is a naturally rich source of essential fatty acids. Essential fatty acids include omega-3, 6 and 9 fatty acids. They are vital for our general health and the health of our skin.  Essential fatty acids help to regenerate skin cells and to repair damaged skin tissue.

Rosehip oil not only helps to reduce or get rid of wrinkles and fine lines, but it also gives the skin an appealing and a healthy glow. All the ingredients in rosehip oil are natural, and that makes it an ideal healthy treatment for the skin.

Dry/Dull Hair

If you have dry hair warm up some Rosehip oil in a bowl, then massage it into your hair and scalp. Leave for about an hour and then wash thoroughly; you’ll be left with soft, revitalized hair.

If you want to reinvigorate your hair and put the shine back into your locks, then use Rosehip oil. Rosehip oil is rich in vitamins and this makes it ideal for adding bounce and silkiness back into limp, lifeless hair.

Works as a Moisturizer

Rosehip oil has a high content of essential fatty acids and is a perfect skin hydration tool. Spray a little Rosehip oil mixed with water on your skin to rehydrate and lock in the moisture. This beauty trick is especially good for summertime.

Rosehip oil can nourish and hydrate brittle nails, making them stronger and healthier. Just massage your nails every evening during one week with Rosehip oil before going to sleep and see the wonderful difference it makes.

Word of Caution

  • Rosehip oil is delicate and can easily go rancid, so it’s important to take great care of it. Keeping it in a cool, dark location can help prevent rancidity.
  • Though it’s more expensive, cold-pressed rosehip is best because it hasn’t been altered by heat and, therefore, retains more nutrients.
  • Applying the oil twice a day can have great benefits, but it is important to note that rosehip oil does not protect against sunburn.
  • Be sure to do a patch test to make sure your skin does not have an adverse reaction to the oils. The inner forearm is a great place to do a test since the skin is delicate, similar to facial skin.
  • Keep the face oil bottle away from light.
  • Because rosehip oil classifies as a dry oil, it absorbs quickly into the skin. You can apply the oil directly to the face using gentle, massaging motions or use it in numerous skin care recipes.
  • And while it can prevent and reduce acne scars, it should not be applied directly to active acne.

Conclusion

With rosehip oil around the corner, you may not have to rely on chemical cosmetics anymore. Make good use of the oil for a more beautiful and healthier you.
